Ch.2 First Civilizations

The first civiliations were cities, states and unequal societies that started around 3500 BCE to 500 BCE. The civilizations represented a new tupe of society that was based on skill, wealth and status. These new societies were controled by leaders that used force. These new societies were overriding the old ways of living.

There were 7 main societies that energed during this time.

B.C.E.           Civilization

3500-3000 Beginning of Mesopotanian, Egyptian, and Norte Chico

3400-3200 Nubian kigndom of Te-Seti

2200-2000 Beginning of Chinese. Indus Valley. and Central Asia

1200 Beginning of Omlec

The Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Notre Chico societies were the first to emrge from 3500 to 3000 BCE. These societies were big on pyramids and had pharrohs. The Norte Chico societies had what we call today apartment like structures.

The Nubian kingdom of Te-Seti during 3400 to 3200 BCE.

The next were the beginning of the Chinese, Indus Valley, and Central Asia from 2200 to 2000 BCE. The Chinese had a lot of evidence from the Xia dynasty. The Shang and Zhou dynasties enlarged the chinese state. They had lavish tombs for their rulers, had political ideology and the ruler was called "Son of God". The Indus Valley was high onnproduction of mud bricks which eventually led to the abandonment of their city because of environmental issues. In Central Asia. There was evidence for an aristocratic social hierarchy.

And then then the beginning of the Omlec from 1200 BCE. The Omlecs were along the Gulf of Mexico. They had evidence of economy: beans, squash, and maize. They also had temples, pyramids and lavish tombs for their rulers.

These nee forms of societies were beginning to take over all humankind. There were people living thebold way still, but towards the 20th century most were civilized.

Ch.2 Docs. Paneb, an Egyptian Troublemaker

Summary: The document I read called, "Paneb, an Egyptian Troublemaker", started off with Paneb as a Egyptian boy who was adopted into a tomb making family. He had really intense fights with his adopted father, Neferhotep. He grew up and got married and had a very large family. He would often cheat on his wife. He would cheat with other married women, and was involved in rape. His son was involved too. Paneb was very controlling and made other people around him do everything for him like make his bed, feed his oxen, and weave his baskets that were for his own personal use. His long time rival, Amennakht, gathered up enough evidence to get him in trouble for all his crimes. Paneb then just vanished. Questions: Since most of the evidence against Paneb comes from his archrival, historians should not grant very much weight to this because he was against Paneb, therefore everything he is going to have to say about him is going to be completely biased. You can expect to get a ...
